Mahurgad, is one the most important place in the Hindu Culture and is the Birth place of Hindu God Dattatreya. Mahur also has sacred temple to Renuka Mata, which is considered one of the three and half Shakti Peethas (temples) in the state. There are many other temples in Mahur like Rishi Jamdagni Temple, Lord Parshuram Temple, Kalika Mata Temple, Devdevshwar Temple, and also the Caves called Pandav Leni.
The place is also called as "Matripura" or "Matapur" is surrounded by jungles rich with trees and wild life. The Peafowl, deer, black bears, panthers are very common in the jungle.
